Even with Jimmy Graham expected back Kingsley Keke Green Bay Packers Jersey , Green Bay heads into yet another offseason wondering how to fill the hole at tight end."Over the next two weeks, Acme Packing Company takes a look at each position group on the Green Bay Packers and provides grades and insight on how they performed in the 2018 season. Today, we examine the tight end position heading into free agency.Ever since Jermichael Finley’s unfortunate, career-ending neck injury, the Green Bay Packers have been a revolving door of sub-standard tight end play. After attempting to make do with mid-round picks and undrafted free agents, in 2016 Ted Thompson signed Jared Cook who was excellent in an injury-shortened season. His agent botched a potential return and the Packers signed Martellus Bennett while Cook’s agent tried unsuccessfully to get a better offer than the one Green Bay made. How did that go? In the words of Pete Campbell, “Not great, Bob.” Last offseason, it was Jimmy Graham, making the third consecutive spring the front office took a big swing with a free-agent tight end. They also signed Marcedes Lewis, added Robert Tonyan after a late-2017 stint on the practice squad and kept Lance Kendricks from the Bennett offseason. It was supposed to be the great fortification of the position the team needed. Narrator: It wasn’t. Lance KendricksNFL Experience: 8 yearsFA Status: Unrestricted free agentExpiring Contract: 2 years, $4 million 2017 Stats: 16 games, 25 targets, 19 catches, 170 yards, 1 TDWhen Kendricks joined the Packers in 2017 Kingsley Keke Jersey 2019 , he was to be the move tight end to complement Bennett’s dual abilities as a blocker and receiver. Instead, he caught just 18 passes, never became part of the offense even after Bennett’s departure, and struggled overall with Brett Hundley at quarterback. Having Aaron Rodgers didn’t improve things much for him in 2018. Some dreadful drops gave way to a second half of the season in which Kendricks began to find a meaningful role as a dump off tight end and security blanket. Kendricks’ blocking isn’t horrid, but he’s not good enough next to Jimmy Graham to make up for Graham’s deficiencies, nor is he so dynamic as a pass catcher a team can just live with that. Graham is coming back, which means Kendricks can’t be. Marcedes LewisNFL Experience: 13 yearsFA Status: Unrestricted free agentExpiring Contract: 1 year, $2.1 million 2017 Stats: 16 games play, 4 targets, 3 catches, 39 yardsThis one is on McCarthy. One of the best blocking tight ends in football? Nah, Graham will be fine there. A 6-foot-7 monster who caught five touchdowns a year ago? Meh, throw it to him ... like whenever. What was the plan here? How did McCarthy, Philbin, et al look at this player and think, “We can’t use him?” Lewis played just under 18% pf snaps last season and was an afterthought in both phases of the offense. Why? How? For all the consternation about Aaron Jones not getting enough touches Kingsley Keke Jersey Mens , the lack of Lewis in this offense may have been equally puzzling given how poorly Graham and Kendricks played most of last season. Free agency is difficult to predict. Lewis’ old coordinator in Jacksonville will be Matt LaFleur’s OC in a scheme that requires a quality blocking tight end, so there’s reason to think Lewis could be back. He also flamed Mike McCarthy in an interview with Martellus Bennett and admitted Rodgers just calls whatever plays he wants. Is that a betrayal of the team’s confidence to tell tales out of school? And would it prevent the front office from bringing back a player who could still help this team? Robert TonyanNFL Experience: 1 yearFA Status: Exclusive rights free agentExpiring Contract: 1 years, $480,000 2017 Stats: 16 games played, 6 targets, 4 catches, 77 yards, 1 touchdown The amount of Big Bob stock being held on Packers Twitter is enough to cause a run on the banks in the near future and it’s not difficult to see why. The 54-yard bomb he caught against the Seahawks (Rodgers said he thought he was throwing to Graham) was the biggest play a tight end has made for the Packers since Richard Rodgers caught the Hail Mary against the Lions. Tonyan showed excellent receiving skills in preseason, along with body control and athleticism as a former college receiver. He has the frame to get better as a blocker, something he must do if he wants more playing time and there’s an enormous opportunity in front of him to do grab those snaps. But for now, he’s Tight End Janis, a player with estimable promise who has limited regular season success to go with excellent preseason production. Relying on him to be the TE2 for a team hoping to compete for a Super Bowl is a tough ask, but he could be a useful player down the line if he keeps progressing. Given his status as a ERFA, the Packers will almost certainly offer him the one-year tender, which he can either accept or sit out. Even if the Packers draft a tight end this spring, Tonyan will have a huge advantage at a position notorious for slow starts due to the learning curve. We will learn in 2019 if Tonyan is Janis 2.0 or something more. GREEN BAY Youth Kingsley Keke Jersey , Wis. (AP) — Having signed four potential starters in free agency, the Green Bay Packers enter this week’s draft looking to add the missing ingredients to a team that has missed the playoffs the last two seasons.“With some of the things that we’ve done, I think where our team sits today, I’m not super concerned about, ‘Hey, we absolutely have to do this or absolutely have to do that,'” general manager Brian Gutekunst said at a news conference Monday.“We can sit back, see where the draft board is strong, try to get there and then take the best players available. … I think it’s a really good draft overall and I think we have a chance to help our team.”The Packers hold the 12th selection in Thursday’s first round. They haven’t had such an early pick since drafting defensive tackle B.J. Raji at No. 9 in 2009. Gutekunst’s maneuvering in the first round of last year’s draft bagged the 30th selection of the first round for this year. Including those picks, Green Bay has six selections in the first four rounds.Leading to the draft, Gutekunst added outside linebackers Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith, safety Adrian Amos and offensive lineman Billy Turner. Those signings bolstered three of the Packers’ biggest areas of need. In turn, that eases the pressure on Gutekunst.“I do like our flexibility to be able to move around and not feel like we’re pigeon-holed to have to take a certain position or a certain player,” he said. One position where there is not an immediate need is quarterback, with 35-year-old Aaron Rodgers returning for his 15th season. Still, Gutekunst used one of his predraft visits on Missouri quarterback Drew Lock White Kingsley Keke Jersey , who is considered a likely first-round pick. Gutekunst said there’s a measure of “subterfuge” in his use of the 30 predraft invitations. Then again, Brett Favre was 35 when then-general manager Ted Thompson drafted Rodgers in the first round in 2005.“Every year, we spend a lot of time on the quarterbacks and trying to figure out what kinds of players those guys are going to be in the NFL,” Gutekunst said. “And it’s really, really important to us because, if you don’t have one, it’s really tough to win in this league. For us, it’s about trying to decide which are the guys that could potentially be starters in this league.”This will be Gutekunst’s second year running the draft but his first with new coach Matt LaFleur. While LaFleur is installing a new offense — that process will continue at the three-day minicamp that starts Tuesday — Gutekunst said has had “minimal” impact on the kind of players he’s been scouting.“You do this for as long as a lot of us have in that room, this is what you work all year for. It’s really exciting to have the ability to try to help your football team and add to that mix”In addition to the first round, the Packers have the 12th selection in each round. Plus, they have an additional picks in the fourth round (last year’s trade of safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to Washington) and the sixth round (last year’s trade of quarterback Brett Hundley to Seattle). For Gutekunst and his staff, it’s almost show time. In the draft room, the board is locked behind curtains to prevent overanalysis. He allowed his scouts to spend Easter weekend with family.“You do get to this point where it’s a little dangerous to react too much,” he said. “And I wouldn’t imagine there would be a whole lot of tweaks between now and Thursday.”

Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich leaves nothing to chance. He and his staff spend hours meticulously poring through game tapes Cullen Gillaspia Jersey 2019 , crunching numbers and plotting strategy each week. There's a meeting every Friday with the team's two analytics experts where everything from over-under projections to weather conditions come into play.Together, they try to plot out every conceivable game situation in hopes of simplifying the split-second decisions Reich makes each weekend."They factor what's the expected point total of the game, what's the output of the other offense," Reich said, explaining some variables used to create the charts. "It's like there is a sliding scale and those things are adjusted. Really, they are quite sophisticated, quite complex and run off of literally millions of iterations."Reich isn't the only NFL coach to use analytics, but he might rely more heavily on the projections than other coaches 鈥?regardless of the results.Three times last weekend the Colts (6-6) found themselves facing fourth downs in field-goal position with Adam Vinatieri, the league's career scoring leader, ready to kick. Three times, the charts indicated Reich should go for it. And all three times, Indy came up short. The resulting 6-0 loss at Jacksonville ended the Colts' five-game winning streak, complicated their path to the playoffs, and dealt Andrew Luck his first shutout as a pro.Reich had been here before, though. On Sept. 30, he also opted to go for the win in overtime against Houston. A failed fourth-down attempt allowed the Texans (9-3) to kick the winning field goal as time expired 鈥?giving them their first victory in a nine-game winning streak they'll put on the line in Sunday's rematch.Houston can clinch the AFC South title with a win and a Tennessee loss.Indy (6-6), meanwhile Color Rush Cullen Gillaspia Jersey , lost two more games before rebounding with a five-game winning streak that put it back in the playoff mix and had some outsiders openly questioning whether the Colts would have been better off playing it by the book and going for the tie in the first Houston game. But inside the locker room, there is no debate."It told us he believes in his team, he was not going to allow us to lay down, and we would fight till the end," rookie linebacker Darius Leonard said. "Yeah, we lost the game. But when he said we're going for it, everybody on that bench was behind him."Players embrace Reich's aggressive philosophy in large part because they understand the rationale for his decisions, and they know the former NFL quarterback does his homework. He asks the analytics specialists not just to contemplate the Colts' potential game-day situations but also to break down tape of every other NFL game and plot how the Colts would handle those decisions. Then Reich and Luck discuss the charts to assure everyone works from the same playbook. As a self-described nerd who runs his own book club, Luck understands what Reich's philosophy is all about."You play this game to win and he's going to coach the game to win," Luck said. "I think as players we obviously didn't execute that one (against Houston), but I think that gave us a glimpse into how he coaches and his approach. We appreciate that. We want to go out there and win the game and he gives us a chance to do that."Not everyone adheres to the charts quite like Reich."I think you have to have a great feel for what's going on in the game. How is that game going? How did the opponent decide to play you? Are they playing you in this type of defense or that type of defense or are they trying to attack your defense with these certain plays?" Texans coach Bill O'Brien said. "I think charts are great and they help you prepare, but at the end of the day, how is that particular game being played on game day is what's most important."Reich understands, even acknowledges, that sometimes coaches need to play a hunch or rely on their gut instinct. He's done it, too.Even so, Reich believes there is power in numbers."This is preparation Cheap Cullen Gillaspia Jersey , thought and detail that go into it. It's not robotic" Reich said, citing his decision to punt on fourth-and-1 Sunday when the chart said to go for it. "What the analytics tell us is that historical coaching philosophy has been a little bit conservative and that there are reasons to consider being more aggressive. Then you have to have the maturity and wisdom to interpret the chart the way that you think is best for your team. That's the art of it." After last week’s total dismantling of the Miami Dolphins, everything seems like it’s looking up for the Houston Texans these days. Well, other than the ever-increasing number of key players put on injured reserve, including Will Fuller V. But let’s bask in the joy of Deshaun Watson throwing more touchdowns than incompletions, the offensive line actually looking like a professional unit, and a defense that got after the other team like there was a fire under their feet. Am I the only that noticed the extra bit of attack the defensive front seven brought when Brock Osweiler was on the field? Thankfully, we could once again count on him to throw a fumble, even if the borderline amateur-hour officiating crew sided with the Dolphins on that one. Don’t get me started on the DeAndre Hopkins Catch-Of-The-Year the refs wrongly called an incompletion. With today’s trade deadline looming, let’s pull our collective head out of the clouds and look to the future. By position group, here’s a summary of where we stand:Quarterback: We’re good. REAL good. Possibly the best ever in franchise history. Running Back: Ummm鈥?pass. Literally, throw the ball. Lamar Miller is finally being used properly, but are we sure we can count on O’Brien to avoid his old ways of ramming Miller into the A-Gap over and over again? Plus, recovering from an injury like the one D’Onta Foreman suffered comes with no guarantees he’ll ever be more than below average once he gets back on the field.Wide Receiver: It could be argued that DeAndre Hopkins, Keke Coutee, Vyncint Smith and Sammy Coates might do in a pinch if the tight end corps is finally becoming a part of the B’OB offense. But having Fuller to take the top off the defense certainly made D-Hop’s days easier. Maybe they quickly elevate newly inked practice squader Steven Mitchell? Tight End: This is arguably the strongest TE corps since the Gary Kubiak heyday and has the potential to be the best ever. More on that in a bit. Offensive Line: It is what it is. Defensive Line: Talk about strength upon strength.Any unit with J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney is just that. Linebackers: Somewhere Brian Cushing is wishing he could still get after Alfred Blue in practice. Meanwhile, the current corps of linebackers is coming along nicely. Cornerbacks: This is where the rubber currently leaves the road defensively. With Aaron Colvin out Cullen Gillaspia Jersey Womens , Kevin Johnson out, Johnathan Joseph hurt, and Kareem Jackson moved back in (yet definitely playing well), the Texans really need some cornerback help. Safety: Like the tight end group, this isn’t normally a place of roster strength for Houston, but with players like Tyrann Mathieu, Justin Reid and the now healthy Andre Hal holding down the fort, this is shaping up to the be the best safety group the Texans have ever had. Where does that leave the Houston Texans?Looking over this roster, it might be easy to get caught up in the trade hype of today’s deadline. Rumors are swirling that other teams are trying to pry Jadeveon Clowney away.Other rumors are floating that H-Town is trying to secure the services of Demaryius Thomas from the Broncos and/or DeSean Jackson from the Buccaneers. Fans are speculating about the hope that Ryan Griffin and Alfred Blue find their way to new locales as part of a package in exchange for one of those wideouts or a cornerback. Some people are tossing out the notion that Houston is in “win-now” mode and should leverage future draft picks to land needed players. Where the truck stops is that last sentence. Giving up future draft picks is what you do to land a guy like Deshaun Watson, not a guy like DeSean Jackson. Trading away the future for the present is what teams that are one or two pieces away from NFL domination do to get them over the hump. While this Texans squad is currently overachieving, which we all love, the idea that one or two players will guarantee the Lombardi Trophy comes home to Houston in February is flawed thinking. Now, giving up a third rounder for the likes of Patrick Peterson, or a second for Le’Veon Bell might make sense, but there’s limited upside for the other teams in those trade scenarios. At the end of the day, Houston is one year away from being in a position to trade the future for the present. That doesn’t mean dreaming about what might happen if Houston did land Bell or Peterson in a trade that included Ryan Griffin or a late round draft pick isn’t fun. Give us your thoughts on whether Houston should trade (and who/what for who/what) or if they should stand their ground and prepare to stockpile some great young talent in the 2019 NFL Draft. New GM Brian Gaine did really well last year with what he inherited from the guy who brought us Brock Osweiler; just imagine what he can do with three picks in the top 50.

The NFL coaching dominoes have started to fall and the remaining ones left standing will fall in the coming days. There are many qualified candidates still available Trayveon Williams Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , but what type of head coach should teams be looking for? If all else is equal, would a team be better off hiring a defensive coordinator like Vic Fangio, an offensive coordinator like Eric Bieniemy, or a former head coach like Mike McCarthy? Are offensive minded coaches really better? Are teams better off hiring rookies head coaches or experienced retreads? Here is a look at how first year coaches from different backgrounds have been over the past three seasons. 2018 HiresThis past season seven NFL teams hired new head coaches. The best hire out of the seven seems like a toss up. Matt Nagy, who was one of the hottest candidates last season added seven wins to the Bears’ total from a season ago en route to winning their division. Frank Reich may not have been the Colts’ first choice, but after adding six wins to their regular season total from a year ago and winning a playoff game, they probably don’t even remember that other guy’s name. Pat Shurmur managed to improve the Giants record by two wins. Mike Vrabel had the same record as his predecessor in Tennessee. The Jon Gruden Raiders lost two more games than they did in 2017. Matt Patricia’s first year with the Lions was disappointing and led to three more losses than the team had the prior year. Steve Wilks had the worst year of the group though, and was fired after the Cardinals lost five more games than they did a year ago. In 2018, new coaches won on average 0.71 more games than their teams had won the year before. Former offensive coordinators won 3.25 games more than the year before and Nagy and Reich winning seven and six more games, respectively, certainly didn’t hurt this figure. Those with defensive backgrounds on average LOST 2.67 more games than their predecessors. 2017 HiresTwo seasons ago Trayveon Williams Jersey Womens , Sean McVay improved the Rams’ record by seven games from the previous year’s led team led by Jeff Fisher and took them to the playoffs. It is easy to forget that Doug Marrone did the same thing with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Marrone even went all the way to AFC Conference Championship game. Sean McDermott improved the Bills’ record by two games, and led them to the playoffs. Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan each led their squads to four more wins than the previous season. Vance Joseph was the only coach who lost more games (four) in his first year than his team had lost the previous season.A year later, McVay is still riding high, but Marrone seems to be on the hot seat after going 5-11. McDermott dropped a few more for a team that is in transition. Lynn took a leap forward going 12-4 and making the playoffs. Shanahan struggled after losing his signal caller. Joseph lost his job after consecutive losing seasons. Two years after being hired both McVay and Lynn look like great finds. Both are offensive minded coaches. Offensive coaches in this group won on average four more games in 2018 than their teams did in 2016 while defensive minded coaches LOST two more games on average.2016 HiresThere were seven new head coaches hired in the NFL in 2016 and they were all offensive minded coaches. In year one, many of them looked like good hires. Mike Mularkey’s Titans improved by six wins from 2015 to 2016. Ben McAdoo’s Giants added five wins and made the playoffs. Adam Gase’s Dolphins improved by four wins while also making the playoffs. Dirk Koetter increased the Buccaneers’ win total by three. Three years later Mularkey, McAdoo, Gase, and Koetter along the former 49ers head coach Chip Kelly and former Browns head coach Hue Jackson are all gone. The only surviving member of this class of head coaches is the Eagles’ Doug Pederson.Pederson actually failed to improve the Eagles record in year one; matching the 7-9 record his predecessor had posted in 2015. The following year he won 6 more regular season games and a Super Bowl. Overall ResultsThere are 20 coaches in these three groups: 15 offensive minded coaches and 5 defensive minded coaches. On average, new coaches won 1.9 more games in their first year than the teams that hired them did in the previous season. Former offensive coordinators won on average 3.2 more games, while former defensive coordinators on average LOST two more games. Coaches with NFL head coaching experience on average won 1.33 games more than their teams had won in the previous season. It should be noted that all of those coaches were offensive minded coaches. In short:Offensive coaches have fared much better than defensive coaches.Every coach with previous NFL head coaching experience who was hired in the last three years was an offensive minded coach. They have not done as well as the offensive rookie head coaches, but have done better than defensive minded head coaches.Year one success does not always carry over. While Doug Pederson won no more games in his first year than his team had the season before and won a Super Bowl the following season Cheap Trayveon Williams Jersey , no coach has been able to rebound from losing more games in their first season than their team had the year before. One of the most interesting factoids about the Rams’ offense is how much of their playbook is ran out of 11 personnel (one running back, one tight end, and three wide receivers). In fact, the Rams used 11 personnel on 96% of their plays from this past season! In this single personnel grouping, they use a variety of formations; frequently bunching receivers, making the other side of the field accessible to them. They also utilize a lot of motion; bringing tight ends and wide receivers across the formation and running backs in and out of the backfield.Head coach Sean McVay is the play caller for the Rams, but he doesn’t just call the plays and sit back and watch. He talks to his quarterback Jared Goff until the radio cuts out with 15 seconds left on the play clock. This single personnel grouping, “check with me” system can get teams in trouble. An offense must pressure the defense with their formations or their speed. Both create a need for the defense to be able to communicate effectively. If it is done with formations, the defense must be able to make adjustments to their defense based on various factors. The most extreme include:Having multiple in-line tight ends that creates an extra gap to be accounted for.Aligning no running backs in the backfield, which assures a situation where the defense needs to be able to cover five receivers on a ball thrown immediately while still accounting for the quarterback run game. Adjustments and communication must take place in certain defenses base on the number of extended receivers or a motion as well. Responsibilities and alignments change in these situations and if a defense is caught off guard, they’ll usually end up being screwed. An offense that utilizes speed (like Chip Kelly) forces the defense to communicate and line up quickly and limits their ability to call vary their defensive looks. This means the offense knows what defense they are in most of the time Color Rush Trayveon Williams Jersey , because they cannot change,What the Rams do is kind of the opposite. It is something that many college teams have done, but many of them did it out of 10 personnel (one running back, no tight ends, and four wide receivers) limiting their ability to vary formations. The Rams use of a tight end allows them to vary their formations more and put pressure on the defense. The Rams get lined up and McVay has the ability to see the defense and make audibles. They got a lot of attention for their “Halle Berry” call recently. That is the key to this system. Short terms that communicate a lot of information and allow them to change the play quickly. Run-pass-options, or “RPOs”, are a hot concept in the NFL right now. These concepts have been around for quite some time, and illustrate the Rams offensive system perfectly. In the clip below the Rams have a run play called to one side of the formation, but because the defense has loaded the box, they throw the slant to the backside.Play action is a huge part of what the Rams do, and the majority of play action plays are not RPOs. Goff and Todd Gurley don’t work too hard to sell the run action. The offensive line and occasional swiping action of tight ends does that. The Bengals will have to make decisions this offseason on what tight ends they want to bring back. Losing Tyler Eifert this season hurt Trayveon Williams Jersey 2019 , but in the Rams system tight ends, are used more for their versatility than simply as receivers. Tight ends Tyler Kroft and C.J. Uzomah would make an effective pair who could be used in the pass game and as run and pass blockers. The Rams like to take deep shots in their play action game. The clip below is just one example. With A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd, and John Ross the Bengals have an excellent trip of wide receivers who could thrive in this system. The Rams like to get Goff on the move by running bootlegs. In the clip below the run action goes to the right and Goff boots back around to the left looking to throw the ball. Andy Dalton is an athletic player who does well on boot plays. This type of play also takes pressure off of the offensive line because they are not required to pass block. The Bengals need to make better use of their running backs in the pass game. It is not just Giovani Bernard who is effective out of the backfield, Joe Mixon is an excellent pass catcher. The Rams’ running backs (mostly Gurley) have nearly 150 receiving yards more than the Bengals this season.Gurley lines up at receiver or motions out of the backfield. Although he does catch some check downs, the Rams design plays to use his athletic ability in the pass game. In the clip below, they run play action to Gurley, but then set up a screen. This is getting the ball in the hands of their play maker in a different way. The Bengals made Mixon their primary rusher this season, but they need to find different ways to get him the ball in a position to make a play.Mixon isn’t the only young player the Bengals failed to get the most out of; John Ross has been severely underutilized. Quick screens like this one to Brandin Cooks could be a very effective way of getting Ross in a position to make an impact. The clip below is a great example of a condensed formation that allows receivers to have an impact on either side of the formation. On this play, the Rams have wide receiver Cooper Kupp matched up with a linebacker. He drags across the formation and takes it up field. Goff is aware of the favorable matchup and hits him for a long touchdown. The Rams are excellent in winning in man coverage, but they are also effective against zone. On this play Trayveon Williams Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , wide receiver Josh Reynolds finds an open area in the zone and sits his route down.Just about every team in the NFL utilizes the jet weep. It would be a great way for the Bengals to get the ball in Ross’ hands, but they used it surprisingly little. All Bengals receivers totaled 9 carries for the season, whereas Rams receivers had 35 carries in the regular season. That means the Rams handed the ball off to a receiver on a jet sweep or reverse about twice per game while the Bengals did it roughly once every two games. It is not just about the play itself — jet motion and jet sweep action holds the backside which opens up running lanes for Gurley. In this clip the Rams hand the ball to wide receiver Robert Woods on the jet sweep, and he takes it for a big gain. The Rams run game is built primarily around inside and outside zone. The Bengals need to improve their offensive line, but they are a zone heavy team. They finally gave Christian Westerman a shot at right guard at the end of the season, and he could very well be given a chance to start under a new regime. He is well suited for a zone system so this would be a very good fit for him. Tight ends Kroft and Uzomah would also be very successful in this system. The clip below shows a zone play with the tight end swiping across the formation to block the backside. This allows Gurley to cut back for a big gain.Zac Taylor’s previous experience as an NFL play caller came in the last 5 weeks of 2015 when he served as the Dolphins' interim offensive coordinator after Bill Lazor was fired. The offense looked pretty similar to the Rams’ system. Unlike the Rams, they did not spend most of their time in one personnel group. They still ran a lot of zone and play action pass off of it. They also ran some sweep and one-back power. Overall they were pretty heavy run.Below is a clip that shows them using a wide receiver motion and the threat of reverse to hold the backside and open up the run.It is hard to say what Taylor’s plans may be for the Bengals offense. Looking back at his time with the Dolphins, it appears he shared some things with McVay philosophically before joining the Rams. The Bengals will likely have similarities to the Rams offensivey, but Taylor has some experience outside of Los Angeles and is likely to put his own spin on things.

Could a reunion with Matt Patricia be the spark Jamie Collins’ career needs?"A week before free agency begins in the NFL Ty Johnson Jersey 2019 , another big name has already hit the market. On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns announced that they have released veteran linebacker Jamie Collins Sr. just a couple years after making the aggressive move trading for him at the 2016 trade deadline and signing him to a four-year deal. The move saves Cleveland $9.25 million.Collins obviously has links to Detroit, and they begin and end with his three-and-half years with the New England Patriots. Bob Quinn was part of the personnel department that decided to draft Collins in the second round in 2013. Matt Patricia was his defensive coordinator for his entire Patriots career, which included an All-Pro season and a Super Bowl win.But while Collins thrived in New England, his time there will always be marred by their strange mid-season divorce. Some believed the Patriots moved on from Collins because they knew they weren’t going to meet his contract demands in his upcoming free agency. Others contend that Collins was “freelancing” on defense, instead of abiding by New England’s strict “do your job” mantra. Either way Color Rush Ty Johnson Jersey , it’s now clear the Patriots made the right move at the time. But would Patricia be interested in a reunion three years later? The Detroit Lions are certainly in the market for defensive playmakers, and while linebacker isn’t their most pronounced need, Collins would certain bolster a pretty thin squad. The talent Collins possesses is obvious. He’s a three-down linebacker that can truly do it all. With the Patriots, Collins was their do-it-all back. He pressured the quarterback, he dropped into coverage, he helped stacked the box against the run. In 2015 Cheap Ty Johnson Jersey , he made the All-Pro second team while notching PFF’s fourth-highest grade for linebackers. But things didn’t work out so well when he went to Cleveland. His effort was questioned, he lost nearly an entire season to injury, his production drastically dropped, and his PFF grades plummeted to just 42.1 and 62.3 in his past two seasons. Cleveland still used him a ton when he was healthy (90.7 percent of defensive snaps in 2018), but his price tag and a change of defensive scheme made him a pretty easy cap casualty. Could a reunion with Patricia rekindle the fire that made Collins such a menace on the field just three years ago? We’ve already seen Patricia take other team’s castoffs—Romeo Okwara and Devon Kennard—and turn them into productive players. And with a player like Collins, who will already be well-versed in Patricia’s defense Ty Johnson Jersey Womens , he could easily slide right back into the role that made him dominant in New England. And perhaps the ugliness of the divorce between New England and Collins was overstated. After all, the Patriots were reportedly in discussions with the Browns to actually trade back for Collins at last year’s trade deadline. If Collins was truly the headache that some claim him to be, why would New England bother to discuss bringing him back? There aren’t many coaches around that know Collins better than Patricia, so if he’s worth the risk, he’ll take his shot. Collins has talent, that much isn’t really up for discussion. The question is whether Patricia has the key to unlock that potential and whether he’s willing to pay for it. While the Detroit Lions continue to search for their next offensive coordinator Ty Johnson Detroit Lions Jersey , their old offensive coordinator continues to search for a new job. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jim Bob Cooter will be interviewing for the Arizona Cardinals’ offensive coordinator job:Arizona would be an interesting landing place for Cooter, as the Cardinals just hired Kliff Kingsbury as their next head coach. Chances are Kingsbury would want to hold onto offensive play-calling duties, which could actually benefit Cooter. The former Lions offensive coordinator struggled to get into rhythms while play-calling, being called out by fans and opposing players for being too predictable. Additionally, pairing Cooter Ty Johnson Jersey 2019 , who helped make Matthew Stafford a better quarterback, with Josh Rosen could be a really good fit for Arizona. Rosen had a rough rookie season, finishing last among all qualifying quarterbacks in passer rating. This is the second reported interview for Jim Bob Cooter. He previously interviewed for the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator job, but the Browns recently hired Todd Monken instead.

In a pivotal year for the Packers front office http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-j_mon-moore-jersey , these moves would help the Packers maximize improvement while preserving their long-term outlook."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football Adviceoutlook.CSTShareTweetShareShareWhat does a perfect 2019 Packers offseason look like? Signing Adrian Amos won’t have the sexiness of landing Earl Thomas, but for the money it’s a better option for the Packers. Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY SportsBrian Gutekunst has it all this offseason. A new coach, cap space, and a hoard of draft capital to put the Packers squarely back into playoff contention and competing for Super Bowls. With free agency days away and the draft rapidly approaching, we examine where the value might be in play addition, what it would cost, and how best to approach building this roster for 2019 and beyond. Aaron Rodgers’ mega-deal doesn’t hamstring the Packers as much as has been said and there are a couple moves Green Bay can make to free up even more money to spend if they so choose. The idea is to create a likely scenario, not just play Madden. With that in mind, here is one way to craft the offseason to maximize value and team improvement. Cut Nick Perry with a post-June 1 designation While this doesn’t save the Packers in the short-term for free agency, it frees up considerable cap in 2019 and 2020 which would help them sign their draft class and the Bashaud Breeland type free agents. More on Breeland to come. The money for his roster bonus wouldn’t come off until June 2nd, but that alone is $4.8 million in relief. All in Womens Kentrell Brice Jersey , the Packers would save $10.7 million with $4 million in dead cap for 2019 and $6.9 million in 2020 when the Packers will have gobs of cash to spend even without this move. Cut Tramon Williams This has more immediately salary cap relief implications for the Packers. The soon-to-be-36-year-old Williams has a cap hit of just under $6.4 million in 2019 but would save the Packers $4.7 million this offseason. That’s enough to pay a legitimate starting-caliber player, like say a former starting cornerback forced to take the veteran minimum after a bizarre injury scuttled a free-agent contract.Re-sign Bashaud Breeland for three years, $18 million Before an infection in his foot voided the deal, Breeland signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Panthers. Breeland joined the Packers on a minimum deal to rehabilitate his value and struggled with new injuries, a problem that hadn’t cropped up in Washington. But given that rocky season and another year of age on his body, Breeland can’t rightly demand the full $8 million APY he got in free agency a year ago. That said, he showed enough to be a starting-caliber player for the Packers, making splash plays when he was on the field. He’d be a stabilizing force in a secondary full of young players and wouldn’t cost much. They’re basically trading Breeland for Williams and an extra million dollars. That’s a huge win for the Packers. Sign Anthony Barr for four years, $56 million The case for this contract is simple: top-of-market linebacker money even just for Anthony Barr the off-ball linebacker would be in the $10 million to $12 million range. He can’t command a top 3-4 OLB contract because we haven’t seen him full-time pass rush since UCLA. If his floor is a Pro Bowl jack-of-all-trades linebacker, this contract is only a slight overpay. The additional $2 million to $4 million is paying for that rush upside. More on why that makes sense here. Before the Perry cut Reggie White Jersey , the Packers have roughly $34 million in cap space for this offseason. After the $14 million APY here (and they can play with the numbers as needed), they’d be down to $20 million. Sign Adrian Amos for four years, $32 million Four years is the window. That’s how long the Packers have Aaron Rodgers under his mega-deal and that’s the likely minimum number of seasons he’ll be the starter barring major injury. Amos turns 26 next month, which means he’ll be 30 when this deal is over, putting it in the prime of his career. Overshadowed by rising star Eddie Jackson in Chicago, Amos brings the right skill set to play deep or in the box for the Packers in Mike Pettine’s amoeba defense. The Bears may have to let him walk if they decide to pay Bryce Callahan and Amos isn’t considered in the realm of top-of-market safeties like Landon Collins or Earl Thomas, even if he probably should be. Shave another $8 million off the cap space, leaving the Packers with $12 million left. Sign guard Quinton Spain for four years, $16 million Mark Glowinski re-signed with the Colts for $6 million APY, which sets the non-Rodger Saffold market. Spain played for Matt LaFleur last year in Tennessee, is just 28 Lance Kendricks Jersey White , and could come in to start at either guard spot for the Packers. He sits in that sweet spot of not overpaying for a name like Saffold but has clear value beyond the James Carpenter’s of the free agent class. This would leave a little less than $7 million under the cap, with Perry’s money set to come off the books in June. Plenty of money to sign the draft class and still have a rainy day fund. Draft Montez Sweat at No. 12 overallMaybe this is cheating a little after the combine where Sweat put together an all-time performance with athletic testing. If he’s there, it’s a no-brainer. If he’s not, Clelin Ferrell provides more than enough value to justify his selection, as does Brian Burns, setting up the Packers to address their one remaining glaring need for a pure pass rusher. Signing Barr would also make it easier to let a player like Burns develop his body and technique without having to play 90 percent of snaps right away.Draft Chris Lindstrom at No. 30 overallLindstrom can play guard or tackle making him the kind of swing offensive lineman the Packers love. After testing as an elite athlete, with experience at tackle and guard, Lindstrom fits the profile for this front office to the letter. If Bryan Bulaga has to miss games, Lindstrom slots in at right tackle, with the chance to be the successor. If Lane Taylor or Spain get hurt, Lindstrom can handle their role as well. Rush the quarterback and protect your own; no two tenants of the game are more important. Draft Irv Smith Jr. at No. 44 overallFrankly Womens Jaire Alexander Jersey , the 20-year-old Alabama tight end would be a fine value at 30, despite measuring smaller at the combine than many anticipated. He still ran 4.6 and his agility testing belies the fluidity he shows in games. More importantly, he can block. Even if he’s relegated to a glorified H-Back role, that has more value for the Packers than most teams because of Matt LaFleur’s offense. Smith offers the perfect upside opportunity to take on a secondary role in 2019 as he grows into the NFL game, before taking over in 2020 once Jimmy Graham is out of the picture. Trade up to draft Juan Thornhill at No. 58 overallThere’s a clear cut off around the top-50 of players capable of impacting games, not just in this class, but historically speaking. Someone will fall, they always do. Green Bay can package the 75th pick with both fourth-round selections to sneak back into the second to grab a player like Thornhill. He’s the platonic ideal of a big nickel safety who can cover, play deep, and defend the run. Virginia even played him at cornerback in a pinch and though his outstanding athletic ability didn’t consistently show up in college, the Packers should trust Mike Pettine to maximize him. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has announced that he will donate $1 million to help those affected by wildfires in his native California.“The California wildfires have devastated countless communities Womens Blake Martinez Jersey ,” Rodgers said in a video posted on Twitter. “In Northern California, where I was born and raised, the city of Paradise burned to the ground, and many of the residents who got out are now displaced to my hometown of Chico, and across the north state. I personally reached out to my friends and the mayor of Chico to find out how to be of the most help. And raising money for both immediate needs and the long-term recovery is what is needed most right now. This is why I’m partnering with the North Valley Community Foundation and donating $1 million to help with recovery and eventual rebuild of these communities.”Rodgers also announced a donation from State Farm, and encouraged fans to donate to the North Valley Community Foundation.NFL players have often rallied to support their communities in the wake of tragedy. Perhaps most notably, last year J.J. Watt spearheaded an effort that raised more than $40 million for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

HOUSTON (AP) — DeAndre Hopkins had the best season of his career Lamar Miller Jersey , carrying Houston’s receivers in a year the group was decimated by injuries. Now the self-described best receiver in the NFL will need another big performance for the Texans to get a win over the Colts in the wild-card game on Saturday.“I feel like I’m a leader of this team, not just this offense,” Hopkins said. “I was named captain, so for me to go out and play my best game is important, not just for me but for this team.”Hopkins finished the regular season with a career-high 1,572 yards receiving, which ranked second in the NFL, and his 115 receptions tied a franchise record set by Andre Johnson in 2008. His 11 touchdown receptions were fifth in the league and tied for the second most in his career after he grabbed a franchise-record 13 last season. His performance comes in a season when the Texans lost starting receiver Will Fuller to a torn knee ligament in October, and Demaryius Thomas to an Achilles tendon injury two weeks ago. Houston got solid production from Keke Coutee midway through the season, but the rookie has missed the last five games with a hamstring injury, leaving Hopkins to carry an even bigger load than usual.Coach Bill O’Brien is wowed by the sixth-year player nearly every day, and when asked about him this week he noted Hopkins had just made a nifty one-handed grab in practice a few minutes earlier.“He just has a great skill set, really smart player, excellent competitor, can really make the contested catch Arian Foster Jersey , he can line up inside, he can line up outside, he can do a lot of different things, and he’s come up real big for us,” O’Brien said. “He has 115 catches and they’ve all been important catches. He’s a leading third-down target. … He always impresses me.”He’s so good and consistent that second-year quarterback Deshaun Watson admitted he’s tempted to throw it to him on every play.“For sure,” Watson said. “Usually he’s going to make a play happen regardless if you think he’s open. If he’s not open, he’s open.”Hopkins has a knack for making catches at key moments, with 81 of his 115 receptions resulting in a first down or a touchdown. And an even more impressive statistic, according to Pro Football Focus, is that he does not have a single drop this season on catchable targets. After that statistic was released, a meme featured a picture of Hopkins with a bottle of glue in one of his hands bearing a label that read: ‘Hopkins’ Catch-All Multi-Purpose WR, extra strong formula, no drop.’ Hopkins was amused by the meme and his tweet of it received more than 68,000 likes. But he said he’s more concerned about being consistent than the fact he hasn’t dropped a ball all season.“That’s my goal every day. Being consistent, not just on the football field but in life Andre Johnson Jersey ,” he said. “Playing football is something I love doing, and being named as one of the best is something that I work hard for because I think everybody wants to be the best at their position. Otherwise why would you play your position? So, to get that recognition from whoever made that, that was pretty cool … I know that if I don’t drop a ball, it’s going to lead to something good.”Watson didn’t have to play with Hopkins long to realize he wasn’t like most receivers and that his skills could help make up for some of the young quarterback’s mistakes.“I found that out last year when I was throwing to him. It’s ridiculous,” Watson said. “My first start in Cincinnati last year, some balls there I kind of threw high. Some stop routes. I’d come over and be like: ‘Hey, it’s my bad. I’m going to get it down,’ and he was just like: ‘No, I want it just like that. I want it high. I want it outside. I want it low,’ and he just found a way to get it.”His production this season is even more impressive considering he’s been hampered by minor injuries, but still started every game. While those injuries never kept him out on game day, they limited his practice time, which he acknowledges was difficult.“It’s been challenging not being able to practice with my guys like I want to, being out there Jose Altuve Jersey , just having fun with the fellas,” he said. “That’s why I look forward to coming to work every day, just being around my teammates, not just going out there and making plays on Sunday.“It’s been challenging from that aspect, but it’s been good,” he continued. “My play has correlated to us winning games, so I feel like me personally, this is my best season. We won the division. Best record I’ve had since I’ve been here yet.”And now Hopkins and the Texans will try to build on that success as they chase their first championship. More notable injuries, plus the Buccaneers and Bears on byes this week will create a greater sense of urgency when heading to the waiver wire.Be prepared to spend aggressively if you use a Free Agency Acquisition Budget (FAAB), or have contingent/alternative options ready in case you don't land your preferred player on waivers because an opponent has priority.RUNNING BACKSRobert Turbin, Indianapolis (0.3 percent owned): Turbin returns from a four-game suspension this week. The veteran can bring a stabilizing presence to the Colts' 29th-ranked rushing game. Turbin is an adequate ball carrier and scored seven TDs two years ago. He has flex potential, with Marlon Mack not being able to stay healthy, and Nyheim Hines possibly complementing him as a pass-catcher. The Colts play on a short week this Thursday, but add Turbin for possible impact thereafter.Alfred Blue, Houston (1.9): Lamar Miller has rushed for 59 yards on 24 carries in the past two games Jadeveon Clowney Jersey , and he sat out the fourth quarter in the Week 4 win over Indianapolis. Miller has never lived up to expectations since coming to Houston and it would not be surprising to see Blue start to cut into his workload even more.Ty Montgomery, Green Bay (40.0): Injuries are starting to pile up at the WR position for Green Bay and despite the recent buzz about Aaron Jones, this remains a pass-first offense. Montgomery is a former wide receiver and has familiarity with Aaron Rodgers. He has caught eight passes for 105 yards in his past two games and is worth an add in point-per-reception (PPR) formats. Rodgers may look to him frequently as a known target over some other less experienced pass-catchers.Mike Davis, Seattle (0.2): He was a surprise starter over Rashaad Penny when Chris Carson (ankle) was declared a late inactive on Sunday. Davis stepped in and rushed for 101 yards and two scores. Carson has been riddled by injuries early in his pro career and the rookie Penny does not seem to have the confidence of the coaching staff yet. Davis can at least be a short-term option. Don't bid too heavily, though, as he may only serve you well enough for a game or two.WIDE RECEIVERSWillie Snead, Baltimore (5.5): We are witnessing the re-emergence of the Snead we saw in his first two pro seasons with New Orleans. The resurgent Baltimore passing game has re-energized Snead fantasy-wise from a PPR perspective. He has scored in double figures in three of four games so far in that format and he is a fine bye week plug-in.Keke Coutee, Houston (0.5): The fourth round rookie subbed in for Will Fuller and tied a modern NFL record for catches in a pro debut with 11 receptions vs. Indianapolis. There have been some questions about why Fuller was removed from the game and did not see second half action, but he is injury-prone and Coutee, who finished with 109 receiving yards, has a chance to stay relevant in the Texans passing game.Chester Rogers, Indianapolis (0.3): With T.Y. Hilton hurting, Rogers caught eight passes for 85 yards and added a two-point conversion against Houston. Hilton could miss Thursday's game at New England and Rogers could be ticketed for a significant role again.David Moore, Seattle (0.0): The Seahawks need to have playmakers step forward in their passing game, and Moore Johnathan Joseph Jersey , who has flashed during the preseason, has downfield and big-play promise. He caught two passes for 39 yards last week at Arizona. Doug Baldwin is a health risk and Brandon Marshall is very obviously done and will have his snap counts reduced, so Moore may have to step forward and continue to make an impact.TIGHT ENDSTyler Kroft, Cincinnati (0.4): The most obvious and possibly sought-after add this week at a very thin and unreliable position, Kroft has already effectively replaced Tyler Eifert before, as he caught seven TD passes last year. Andy Dalton loves to look for his tight ends in the red zone, so be prepared to bid heavily in FAAB situations.Cameron Brate, Tampa Bay (10.6): Rising star O.J. Howard is expected to miss two to four weeks with a knee injury and Jameis Winston has been re-installed as Tampa Bay's starting QB. Brate, who caught eight TD passes last year with Winston as the full-season starter, instantly becomes a TE1 candidate again.QUARTERBACKJamies Winston, Tampa Bay (8.4): He has been confirmed as the starter when the Buccaneers when return from the bye week, and with a need to throw often to a fine receiving group because of the lack of a defense and running game, game flow will frequently put Winston in high volume passing situations.

Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsIn a surprising turn of events, the team that needs linebackers the most will be meeting with the best linebacker in the NFL Draft. Linebacker Devin White will be visiting three teams inside the top-11 picks in the coming days, the Bengals being one of those teams.Blue chip prospects shouldn’t leave the first few picks of the draft, and over the course of the last three months, White has proven he belongs in that elite company. The true junior played a significant role in all three seasons at LSU and was named a permanent team captain and the team MVP in his 19-year old breakout sophomore season in 2017. 2018 saw White elevate to even higher levels. ALLEN PARK A'Shawn Robinson Jersey White , Mich. (AP) — Matt Patricia tried not to send mixed signals as he sought to decipher the cause behind the Detroit Lions‘ worst loss in a home season opener in franchise history. The first-year Detroit coach said the difference in Monday’s 48-17 loss to the New York Jets came down to a simple aspect of football: The Jets made plays and the Lions did not.“I don’t think it was a situation where we were outmatched or outmanned,” Patricia said. “We obviously just got out executed.”In Patricia’s opinion, the Jets defense being able to read some of his team’s offensive signals was not the main reason for Detroit’s lopsided setback at Ford Field.“I would say in general, there are a lot of things that go on in the games that are identifiable to the players on both sides of the ball through the course of the game and that happens at times,” Patricia said. “There are certainly very specific things that are used in the course of a game where guys do a good job of steering things or studying things and seeing stuff at that standpoint.“We certainly have the same situation from our side. We study opponents the same as everybody else does and you kind of, group, I would say, things into categories based on schemes and systems. So, if you do that, sometimes that’s helpful and sometimes it’s not.”In terms of points allowed, the loss was the worst suffered by the Lions in a season opener since a 49-21 setback at Miami in 2002. As far as point differential Womens DeShawn Shead Jersey , the 31-point margin was the widest since a 45-0 loss at Washington in the 1991 opener.“We have to go back, look in the mirror, and figure out a way to get it fixed,” Lions safety Glover Quin said.Besides the four touchdowns given up by the Detroit defense, the Lions offense served up a pick-6 to Jets linebacker Darron Lee, and the special teams were beaten for a 78-yard punt return for a score by Andre Roberts.“We obviously have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball and all three phases,” Patricia said. “And we’re trying to build on those things that we looked at last year that need to improve on, and we’re trying to take steps to do it and get it done in the right way.”Several Jets players insisted what they saw on the field Monday was similar to schemes run by the New England Patriots, where Patricia served as defensive coordinator prior to taking the Lions’ job this season. If that’s indeed the case, there could be a couple more rough weeks in store for the Lions. They’ll face former Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco this week, and play host to the Patriots in Week 3.“For us Christian Jones Jersey , it’s real important to get the things that were wrong fixed as soon as possible,” Patricia said. “And try to get those mistakes cleaned up so they don’t happen again.”RECORD SETTERPatricia can already lay claim to a pair of Lions coaching records. The 48 points surrendered was a new mark for the most allowed by a coach in his first season opener, supplanting Bo McMillin’s 44-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in 1948. And Patricia easily eclipsed the previous standard for the worst loss in a home season opener by a new Lions coach, beating Harry Gilmer’s 20-0 defeat by the Rams in 1965.Only Bill Karcis, beaten 38-0 by the Green Bay Packers in 1942, absorbed a loss by a wider margin as a Lions coach in his first opener.Best team in NFC North? A third of Lions fans think it’s them Last week, only 18 percent of Detroit Lions fans believed the team was headed in the right direction—the third lowest level of confidence among all 32 SB Nation team communities. At that point, the skepticism was warranted. Detroit looked sluggish on offense and completely lost on defense. The seats were rightfully warming underneath offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter and general manager Bob Quinn, and some were even questioning the hiring of head coach Matt Patricia just two games into his tenure. But after the Lions’ drubbing of the New England Patriots on national television, fans are singing a completely different tune. This week, we polled our FanPulse community on the NFC North. The question was simple: Who is the best team in the NFC North? The results are pretty surprising: Fans still believe the Minnesota Vikings are the best in the division Womens Michael Roberts Jersey , but the Lions are not far behind, garnering over 30 percent of the votes—more than the Packers and Bears combined. Of course, these poll results are also influenced by the horrible week that the rest of the division had. The Packers were handled easily by Washington. The Vikings were embarrassed by the Bills. Although the Bears came out victorious on Sunday, they were trailing in that game until the final five minutes, and people in Chicago are worried about Mitchell Trubisky. Week 3 wasn’t just about the Lions saving their season, but the entire NFC North exposing themselves as flawed. Mike Payton is buying in. A third of Lions fans are buying in. I’m not quite there yet, but I will admit the landscape is completely unrecognizable from the division I was looking at last week. Want to be a part of these weekly surveys? Join SB Nation’s FanPulse, a survey of fans across the NFL powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Lions fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.

GREEN BAY http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-jk-scott-jersey , Wis. (AP) — Fired shortly after Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to the team he coached for most of the past 13 seasons. On Wednesday, he got his chance. Interim coach Joe Philbin allowed McCarthy back into Lambeau Field to speak to the team, and the players bid him farewell with a standing ovation.“He held it together as much as you can,” third-year defensive tackle Kenny Clark said on Thursday. “It was emotional. It was emotional for all of us. Mike came in, and we were surprised he was even coming in. Seeing him, gave him a round of applause and thanked him. He was emotional about it, we were all emotional about it.”Linebacker Clay Matthews spent all 10 NFL seasons with McCarthy.“I was happy to see him,” Matthews said. “Obviously, first thing’s first, you understand that this is a business and not many people get that opportunity. For him to invest the past 13 years in this team Kevin King Jersey , has given his heart and soul to us, to have that kind of closure, it was great of the organization.“I know we really enjoyed it. I’m sure he did from a closure standpoint. Obviously, we gave him the respect he deserved and sending him off with some final words.”The Packers enter Sunday’s home game against the Atlanta Falcons having lost five of the past six games to tumble to 4-7-1. Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals, who were only 2-9 at the time, sealed McCarthy’s fate.Less than three hours after the game ended, the team announced McCarthy’s firing.Wednesday’s return provided some closure.“Mike came by the office, I think Tuesday we all saw him as a staff, which was great,” Philbin said. “Then we talked, and he wanted an opportunity to speak with the team. I was 100 percent Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey White , fully supportive of that, and he did a fantastic job talking to the team.“Not just about football and winning football games, but his passion. His passion for the game, his love for the players was clearly evident. I’m sure it was emotional for him and everybody in the room. It was awesome. I thought he did a great job.”The Packers reached the playoffs eight consecutive seasons spanning 2009 through 2016, a streak at the time matched only by the New England Patriots. However, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers missing most of the 2017 season with a broken collarbone, the Packers finished 7-9. The return of Rodgers for this season failed to return the Packers to championship contention and, ultimately, cost McCarthy his job.“It was great” to hear from McCarthy on Wednesday, receiver Randall Cobb said. “It was great that he had that opportunity. I think he’s given a lot to this organization.“Unfortunately, that’s a part of the business Womens Corey Linsley Jersey , not only for players but for coaches, for everyone. Changes happen. This is a business, at the end of the day. They made a business decision.”Notes: Clark was the Packers’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which recognizes one NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field as well as excellence on the field. “I was really happy. I always try to help people out and I always try to give back. For the Packers and everybody to recognize it, it’s cool.” … RG Byron Bell (knee) and RT Bryan Bulaga (knee) missed practice for the second consecutive day. LS Hunter Bradley (ankle), who was injured on Wednesday, did not practice, either. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on Wednesday that it has been a “struggle” to not practice during on Wednesday or Thursday the last two weeks due to the knee injury he suffered in Week One.Rodgers said that after missing practice once again, but this Thursday will be a bit different. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said that Rodgers will be a limited participant in practice as the team gets ready to face the Bills this Sunday.Rodgers did take part in practices the last two Saturdays before playing on Sunday each week, although those practices are less intense than the practices during the week. The Packers have gone 0-1-1 in those games.McCarthy said that tight end Jimmy Graham will also be limited in practice after sitting out on Wednesday due to a knee issue. McCarthy said that the team is “being smart” with Graham in hopes of keeping him healthy enough to play this weekend.

It was a tough day for NFL running backs to stay on the field. The New England Patriots lost Sony Michel to a knee injury Justin Reid Jersey White , while Bills back LeSean McCoy suffered a head injury. Bilal Powell sustained a neck injury in the second quarter of the Jets' loss to the Vikings on Sunday.Michel had to be helped off the field after he got twisted around by Bilal Nichols as he was tackled on the first play of the second quarter. Michel lost a fumble on the play and had to be helped to the sideline. In the previous three games, Michel rushed for 316 yards and four touchdowns.McCoy got injured on the Bills' second offensive play when he hurt his head while going out of bounds. He walked slowly across the field and into the injury tent, where he was checked by team doctors. After a few minutes, McCoy came out of the tent and walked across the field with one arm around a trainer or team doctor. Coach Sean McDermott said it was unclear whether McCoy would be cleared through the concussion protocol in time for next Monday's game against New England. He was replaced in the lineup by veteran Chris Ivory, who also briefly left in the third quarter with what appeared to be a lower left leg or foot injury. He did return. It wasn't just the running backs who got hurt. Miami lost receiver Albert Wilson and Kenny Stills. Wilson left with a leg injury in the second quarter after his foot appeared to buckle when he was tackled on a 25-yard reception. Stills limped to the locker room with a minute left in the loss to the Lions.Earlier in the game Womens Ryan Griffin Jersey , he accidently hurt a stadium security guard's shoulder when he blindsided her on a scoring play . Stills' momentum carried him into the guard after he caught a 5-yard pass in the corner of the end zone, and the woman tumbled to the ground. A dazed Stills checked on her and gave her the ball as a souvenir. The Dolphins said the guard was taken to the hospital as a precaution with a sore shoulder.Miami coach Adam Gase said he didn't consider the positioning of the guard near the end zone something that needed to be addressed."Every stadium is like that where that can happen," the coach said.In other injury news:鈥擩ets safety Doug Middleton, starting in place of the injured Marcus Maye, also left in the second quarter with a shoulder injury. It was uncertain how Middleton was injured. He was in on punt coverage and then took the field on defense Womens Stephen Anderson Jersey , but took a knee to signal he was hurt and headed straight to the locker room with Jets medical staff. Jets coach Todd Bowles said both Middleton and Powell would have tests to determine the severity of their injuries.鈥擬innesota left guard Tom Compton departed in the first quarter with a knee injury.鈥擯anthers DE Mario Addison twice left the game at Philadelphia with a back injury and didn't return after going out in the fourth quarter.鈥擝uccaneers LB Kwon Alexander was lost to a knee injury late in the second quarter. Backup LB Jack Cichy left in the third quarter and did not return.鈥擟olts defensive tackle Jihad Ward was carted off the field with an injured right ankle in the first quarter and TE Eric Swoope left with a knee injury. Neither returned.鈥?9ers safety Adrian Colbert was taken off on a cart after injuring his right leg in the third quarter. Linebacker Reuben Foster left in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury.鈥擧ouston wide receiver Keke Coutee left in the second quarter with a hamstring injury and was ruled out at halftime. 鈥擩acksonville cornerback Tyler Patmon was ruled out in the second quarter of the same game because of a strained neck. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Nick Foles ran back onto the field after a hard shot knocked him out for a play and the crowd roared, seemingly knowing he was about to do it again.Jake Elliott kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired after Foles led the offense into position and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Houston Texans 32-30 Sunday to keep their playoff hopes alive.“Foles was so confident and everyone was so calm,” said Zach Ertz, who set a single-season record for most receptions for tight ends. “No one flinched. Guys stuck together.”Foles threw for a franchise-record 471 yards. The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles (8-7) need a win at Washington (7-8) next week and for Minnesota (8-6-1) to lose at home to Chicago (11-4) to get a wild-card berth. The Texans (10-5) missed an opportunity to clinch the AFC South and also allowed New England (10-5) to take control of the No. 2 seed. But when Pittsburgh lost to New Orleans, Houston earned at least a wild-card berth. The Texans would secure the division title with a victory against Jacksonville next week. They’d get a first-round bye with a win and if the Patriots lose or tie.“I’ll put that on my shoulders http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-senio-kelemete-jersey ,” J.J. Watt said. “The offense did a great job giving us a chance, and we just didn’t get a stop at the end.”Filling in for the injured Carson Wentz for the second straight week, Foles again played like the Super Bowl MVP who led Philadelphia to a victory over New England.“We stuck together through the ups and downs,” said Foles, who choked up when asked about possibly playing his last game in Philadelphia.Deshaun Watson had two TD passes and ran for two scores.Watson threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Vyncint Smith with 2:04 remaining as Houston rallied from a 13-point deficit. But Foles brought Philadelphia back.Foles was injured on a late hit by Jadeveon Clowney while completing a 19-yard pass to Alshon Jeffery to the Texans 30 on third-and-10. Nate Sudfeld came in and threw an incomplete pass Trevor Daniel Jersey , but Foles returned on the next play. His 20-yard pass to Ertz on third-and-10 put Philadelphia at the Houston 35.The Eagles ran the clock down and Elliott made the kick to make up for missing an extra point earlier in the quarter.“When it ends a game, you get to enjoy it a little bit longer,” Elliott said.Watson threw a 14-yard TD to DeAndre Hopkins to cut the deficit to 29-23 with 4:48 left and the Texans got the ball back at their 20 after a three-and-out.Watson made an incredible escape on third-and-11 and threw 22 yards to Jordan Akins for a first down at the Philadelphia 34.On third-and-11, he hit Smith deep in the back of the end zone. Smith made an outstanding catch, and dragged his feet to stay inbounds.Foles connected with Nelson Agholor on an 83-yard TD in the third quarter to give the Eagles a 23-16 lead. Foles changed the play at the line of scrimmage and fired a deep pass that Agholor caught in stride at the Texans 30 and ran untouched to the end zone Womens Aaron Colvin Jersey , stopping at the 1 and falling backward in for the score. The Texans had a first down at the Eagles 31 on the ensuing drive but Chris Long sacked Watson, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Fletcher Cox and returned to the Houston 49.Foles then connected with Ertz on a 23-yard TD to give the Eagles a 29-16 lead. Elliott missed the extra point.Ertz had 12 catches to break Jason Witten’s record. Ertz has 113. Witten had 110 catches for the Dallas Cowboys in 2012.Watson ran in from the 5 one play after Clowney’s strip-sack and recovery, giving the Texans a 9-7 lead. The Eagles scored a TD on their opening drive for just the fourth time this season. Darren Sproles turned a short pass from Foles on fourth-and-2 into a 37-yard TD to give Philadelphia a 7-0 lead.INJURIESTexans: WR Demaryius Thomas (right leg) was carted off the field in the fourth quarter. CB Kareem Jackson (knee) and CB Kayvon Webster (thigh) were injured in the first half. CB Johnathan Joseph (neck) went down in the third quarter.Eagles: LT Jason Peters (quad) got hurt on the first possession.UP NEXTTexans: Host the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.Eagles: Visit the Washington Redskins (7-8) next Sunday.

Even though it was improved, however, didn’t mean it was good. The Bengals still had a bottom-tier offensive line when Zac Taylor came in to Cincinnati, so what did he do? He re-signed Alex Redmond and Bobby Hart. And just like that, all concerns were gone.Just kidding. The opposite, actually. The Bengals did sign former Bills guard John Miller, so hopefully he will compete for the right guard spot with Redmond. Hopefully, this means they’re not done improving. If the Bengals want to draft a lineman for the second year in a row, they should consider Alabama tackle Jonah Williams.Williams is one of the most decorated players in the draft, which means a lot for a lineman. He started all 15 games as a rookie at right tackle and won a spot on the Freshman All-American team. He also earned two All-SEC selections, a third team All-American selection, a first team All-America selection, won a national championship, two SEC championship Color Rush Deshaun Davis Jersey , and was a finalist for the Outland Trophy.Projected as a first round selection, could Williams be the next starter on Cincinnati’s offensive line? Why the pick makes sense:The Bengals currently don’t have a backup tackle on the roster.Given Williams’ versatility and potential at guard, he could replace Clint Boling if the Bengals choose not to re-sign him after this year (which would be a mistake, but that is a conversation for another day).Williams has experience on both sides of the line, and even though he has only played tackle, he could very easily move to guard. The best ability is availability, and Williams has proven durable over the course of his career. He has not missed a game in his three seasons at Alabama. The Bengals usually reward that kind of dependability on the OL (e.g., Bobby Hart, Billy Price).During the 920 snaps of his junior year in 2018, he gave up no sacks. He is a student of the game, and shows marked improvement every year.Despite his lack of size, Williams overpowers those across from him in the run game.In pass protection, he uses great hand placement to keep his leverage. He has great tenacity and is usually able to recover if he is beaten initially.Williams does a great job of moving to the second level on run plays and dominating those blocks. Why the pick doesn’t make sense:The Bengals have, by their standards, probably fully addressed the OL. Both starting tackles are under contract for the next two years.Williams’ first instincts are wrong sometimes, so he gets beat pretty quickly. In college, he had the skill and wherewithal to recover, but that might not be the case in the NFL.While his strength and power are top-shelf, he often got beat by quickness. This could be a problem going up against Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt twice a year.In the running game, getting beat by quickness often meant giving up the running lanes.Lacks mobility when pulling. As bad as the Bengals’ offensive line is Ryan Glasgow Jersey , they have bigger needs elsewhere on the roster. In the eyes of Taylor and the front office, the OL is “fixed” for now. The Bengals will only draft Williams if certain LBs and DLs are off the board. That said, Williams would still be a great pick if that was the scenario that played out on draft day. The Bengals early moves may not seem very important, but they will affect how the team looks at the draft."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections #BITESIZEFilm RoomRoster Transactions and ContractsOrange & Black InsiderSalary Cap And CBANFL Free AgencyAnalysisBengals Free Agency 2019How free agency may impact the Bengals’ draft plansNew,8commentsThe Bengals early moves may not seem very important, but they will affect how the team looks at the draft.EDTShareTweetShareShareHow free agency may impact the Bengals’ draft plansDenny Medley-USA TODAY Sports“This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper.”T.S. Eliot died in 1965, three years before the Bengals franchise was founded, so it is pretty clear he wasn’t talking about the Bengals when he wrote these words in his poem The Hollow Men. But hey, he could have been. Despite their former hashtag slogan, the Bengals never seem to roar into anything, especially not free agency. While other teams have used the legal tampering period to make huge offers to big-name free agents like linebackers Kwon Alexander, C.J. Mosley, offensive tackle Trent Brown and safety Landon Collins, the Bengals were working on bringing their own players back on deals which range from okay to infuriating. These moves could play an important role how the team looks at the draft. Re-signing Bobby HartThe Bengals brought in Bobby Hart on a one-year deal last offseason and after a being the weakest link on the offensive line it seemed obvious that the Bengals should move on. Unfortunately, there is no obvious when it comes to the Bengals. The contract may not be as bad as it was reported initially, but the fact that they prioritized bring him back is a major concern. Re-signing Hart most likely means that the Bengals will not be taking an offensive tackle at 11. This is bad news as there are a hand full of offensive tackles in this years draft, including Florida’s Jawaan Taylor, who could have been excellent options at that spot. The offensive tackle position is so front loaded with talent in this draft class, that it made a good default for the Bengals. Meaning that it would be more than reasonable to say that they should draft Devin White Cheap Deshaun Davis Jersey , Ed Oliver, or the best tackle available. Odds are there is going to be a good one there. At least better than... well you know. The point is that the Bengals seem to be comfortable with Hart moving forward. With Hart signed through 2021 and Cordy Glenn signed through 2020, the team likely thinks they have their bookend tackles for at least the next two seasons. In short, don’t get your hopes up for an offensive tackle at the 11th overall pick.Signing John MillerThe Bengals seem comfortable with the status quo at right tackle, but did look to upgrade the right guard position bringing in (surprise surprise) former Buffalo Bills guard John Miller. The Bengals moved to bring back Trey Hopkins and Alex Redmond. When you add in Clint Boling, Christian Westerman, and 2018 first round pick Billy Price, you have a complete two-deep on the interior line. For that reason, it is highly unlikely that the Bengals draft a guard at all. The position has depth and if Miller and Price can step up, they will have a talented group of starters,Re-signing C.J. Uzomah and Tyler EifertThe Bengals’ top three tight ends all had contracts expiringthis year. The Bengals resigned C.J. Uzomah and the injury-prone Tyler Eifert, while Tyler Kroft will be heading to Buffalo,While Uzomah was not able to bring the same spark to the offense that Eifert did, he is a good player who can be effective as long as he is not called on to be a top contributor. If the John Ross can take a step forward, then the trip of Ross, A.J. Green, and Tyler Boyd hopefully combined with effective use of Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard will be the driving force in the passing game. Uzomah does not have to be a star. He is a good receiver who can line up spread, tight, or in the backfield and is an adequate blocker. Eifert is a wild card. His injury history means he cannot be counted on to make it through an entire season. If he can stay healthy and productive, he will certainly add something to the offense Hardy Nickerson Jersey , but they must remain flexible. Signing Uzomah and Eifert should not have an impact on what the Bengals do with the position in the draft. Although they gave Uzomah a contract that indicates he is the starter, Iowa tight ends Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson should still be under consideration at 11. They may look to add another player to the position and if it is not in the first round, adding a player like Texas A&M’s Jace Sternberger in the third round would be a great move. Re-signing Preston BrownPreston Brown came to the Bengals in 2018 after an impressive stint with the Buffalo Bills. He was known as a run stopper, but played fairly well in the passing game before injury shut him down for the season after seven games. Brown was not great, but he was the best linebacker in a poor group. Retaining him and hoping he stays healthy and returns to form under better coaching was a good move as long as they don’t feel it is the only move they need to make at the position, Brown is a good player, but if they are relying on him as a key pass defender, they could be in trouble. Ideally, he should be the guy coming off the field in nickel (or more accurately to today’s NFL the guy going on the field when it is not nickel) but his contract seems to indicate that they expect more of him.It is promising that the Bengals cut Vontaze Burfict because it shows that they understand the position needs to be overhauled. The Bengals needed more than just one player at this position, so re-signing Brown should have little to no impact on how they see the draft.Brown is a pure MIKE linebacker, so they may look to avoid this type, but that is a positive since outside backers are often better pass defenders. LSU linebacker Devin White should still be one of the top candidates at 11. He played middle linebacker, but has the athletic ability to play outside linebacker. After an impressive combine, Michigan’s Devin Bush could also be an option in the first round. It is highly likely that one of these two is the pick at 11. Alabama’s Mack Wilson could also be a great addition if he is available in the second round. He has a knack for making plays in the pass game, which is something that the Bengals are lacking overall at the position. The Bengals should be looking to double down at the position and will hopefully add someone like Washington’s Ben Burr-Kirven, North Carolina State’s Germaine Pratt, or Akron’s Ulysses Gilbert in the middle of the draft.

Cornerback Aqib Talib targeted this Sunday’s game against the Lions for his return from an ankle injury a while ago Jahlani Tavai Jersey Mens , but head coach Sean McVay took a more cautious approach to questions about when Talib would be back in the lineup.Talib was officially designated to return from injured reserve this week and he took part in practice with the team on Wednesday. It seems to have gone well because McVay has moved to a more optimistic tone.McVay said on Wednesday that he anticipates having Talib in the lineup against Detroit. McVay said that the veteran looked good in practice, but there hasn’t been a determination about how much Talib will play at this point.Sam Shields, Troy Hill and Nickell Robey-Coleman have seen the majority of the time at corner alongside Marcus Peters since Talib was injured and the determination about Talib’s playing time will affect how much they see the field as well. Is there any chance the Lions move up in the draft?"We all know what 99 percent of fans want during the NFL draft. They want their team to trade down and acquire as many draft picks as possible. It’s a tried-and-true method that mostly produces good results Kenny Golladay Jersey , although occasionally teams end up regretting not choosing a player that was available. Of course, it’s also something that fans take for granted how difficult it is to actually pull off. It’s no secret that more draft picks = better, so while there are plenty of draft day trades Michael Roberts Jersey , it’s not always easy to convince another team to make a deal.Which brings us to the other end of the table: trading up. Moving up in the draft is a risky proposition, but if you have a specific player in mind—especially at a very important position—it can sometimes pay off.The Lions are in a pretty comfortable position with the eighth overall pick, but is there a chance that they move up even further? Today’s Question of the Day is:Is there an NFL Draft prospect the Lions should trade up for in the first round? My answer: Absolutely not.Part of the reason I’m such a big fan of the Lions’ free agency moves is that they’ve made it so there isn’t a single position that they desperately need an immediate starter for. Sure guard and CB2 are pretty big needs Travis Fulgham Detroit Lions Jersey , but the Lions at least have bodies with starting experience at those positions. And if the Lions stay on the clock at eight, they’ll almost certainly get a starting-worthy talent. While there are certain players that may look particularly nice in Honolulu Blue (Josh Allen, Quinnen Williams) Travis Fulgham Jersey 2019 , I’m pretty confident that they’ll be able to find someone nearly as good where they currently stand, meaning it would just be way too costly to move up and grab a guy. Your turn.

The start of the Green Bay Packers’ 2018 season has been...underwhelming. Sure Kenny Clark Jersey White , if a couple plays (or, ahem, calls) broke differently, the Packers might have a much better record than 2-2-1, but for now, they’re more or less what their record says they are: a middling team off to a slow start. But that doesn’t mean it’s all been bad! Our writers have found plenty to be positive about. Here’s what they had to say.Wendi Hansen: Giving our rookies the chance to shineThe season so far has been...interesting? As any Packers fan will know, slumps happen. Injuries and bad calls and missed field goal attempts (sorry, Mason, we still love you) happen. It’s part of the ebb and flow of the game. There still is a lot of time to bounce back and get our footing, but in the meantime, one of the silver linings to this crazy start is that our rookies have been given the chance to prove themselves. With both Cobb and Allison out, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown were ushered into a ready-or-not scenario, one that they executed in a big way. I’m excited to see how their chemistry with Aaron Rodgers continues to evolve and grow, hopefully cementing a stronger offensive line. Shawn Wagner: Aaron Rodgers is still on the fieldA 2-2-1 record is far from what I expected when the Packers played the grand majority of their starters and looked fabulous in preseason against the Pittsburgh Steelers. There was a lot of promise from the new offensive weapons, while the defense looked rejuvenated and the team as a hole avoided the major injury bug. In week one Womens JK Scott Jersey , the injury situation immediately took a turn for the worse when Rodgers appeared to suffer a significant injury. Fortunately, he was able to return by the end of halftime.Don’t get me wrong, I am the first person to say Rodgers has not played as expected despite the injury. He’s been far too hesitant, leading to sacks and fumbles as a result. His accuracy has been extremely inconsistent and I’m not sure it’s entirely because of his knee. The system looks faulty and there have been injuries to the receivers Rodgers is most accustomed to playing with. Most concerning is he is missing open receivers. But the silver lining is that Rodgers is still able to give it a go and his performance even in a loss is still more valuable than anything DeShone Kizer or Tim Boyle can bring to this team. If anyone can sort through the offensive mess that has been the first five weeks of the season and rebound, it’s Rodgers. If he can correct some of his own glaring miscues and get some help from the line and young receivers, Green Bay is still a playoff-caliber squad and a serious contender in the NFC North. The fact that the Packers have played as miserably as they have and are still in the hunt for the division must actually be rather scary for the rest of those teams. If the Packers were going to tie any team on the schedule, the Vikings would probably be the one you’d choose. Evan “Tex” Western: A couple of the rookie wideouts are looking goodThe Packers tripled up on the wide receiver position on the third day of the 2018 NFL Draft, and so far the second and third of those players are flashing signs that they will become productive players for this team later this season and in the future. Although J’Mon Moore has yet to really break into the lineup at all, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown have impressed, particularly in recent weeks.MVS has taken a firm hold of the WR4 job, and his special teams ability (particularly as a gunner on the punt team) has been one of his best qualities. He seemed to be the most raw of the three coming in, but he has clearly established himself as the most trustworthy of the three and got starter-level snaps on offense over the past few games with some of the veteran options injured. He caught his first long ball in Washington, Then, EQ got on the field against the Lions in week five and impressed in his 60 snaps, capping off his day with this ridiculous catch-and-run for 54 yards. Given that performance and workload David Bakhtiari Jersey , I’m certain that the reason Moore had been active over EQ in past weeks was special teams-related; St. Brown didn’t really play special teams at all at Notre Dame and he didn’t really get any snaps there in the preseason either. But the rotation clearly goes MVS, EQ, and J’Mon on offense, and the flashes of ability that we’ve seen from those top two are getting me excited.Mike Vieth: The defense keeps getting betterAfter an okay start to the season, the Packers defense really has played well the last two weeks. Every defense, with a new coordinator, will go through some growing pains when the season starts. That was definitely true for Mike Pettine’s squad the first three weeks as we saw them struggle from time to time but also flashed some of the potential to be really good. These past two weeks, I think we’ve seen the defense get more comfortable with Pettine’s calls and schemes. They shut out Buffalo and only gave up 145 total yards and caused three turnovers. Some might scoff and say that it was because of Buffalo, anytime you can hold an offense to that few of yards, it’s a major step in the right direction. Now, getting to the improvement even with the loss to Detroit. I can hear some of you groaning, “how can you improve with giving up 31 points and a loss?” Well, while they did give up 31 points, I consider it only 14 points. They gave up two long drives that were completely on them but the other points, they had the odds stacked against them. The other three scores happened after turnovers and gave the Lions the ball inside the Packers 30 yard line. Those quick changes have been a nightmare for defenses throughout the NFL in 2018. There have been 69 quick changes so far this year (not counting when teams taking a knee at the end of the game) and offenses have a 88.4% score rate when they happen. Of those scores Womens Quinten Rollins Jersey , 55.7% have been touchdowns. Asking any defense to stop a team from that distance after a big momentum shift is near impossible. The game also saw the Packers go against a much better offense than they saw in Buffalo. Matthew Stafford has the ability and the receivers to throw the ball all over the field and they held him to only 183 passing yards. Stafford has averaged 278 yards passing a game over his career and keeping him under 200 yards is a solid game. The Packers also held the Lions to only 94 yards on the ground. This is a big step in the right direction as the season goes on and playing against a struggling 49ers offense on Monday night should give them even more confidence going into the bye week. They’re going to need it as they face the two offenses that can be explosive in the Rams and Patriots after the week off.Bob Fitch: NFC North is still up for grabsI didn’t think we’d be where we are after five weeks, but that’s the way the cookie - and the relationship between your star quarterback and the head coach - crumbles.I kid, of course, because nobody outside of Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers truly knows how their relationship is, but needless to say the 2018 season has been a strange one.The Packers have managed to come away with 2.5 wins in 3 weeks are only one game back in the win column in the NFC north, which is isn’t ideal but due to the up and down play of every other deam in the division, they are still in the hunt for a division title.Minnesota’s defense has taken a leap back, and Chicago has beaten a softer schedule than my pillow with wins against the Seahawks, Cardinals, and Buccaneers, so it remains to be seen how truly good they are yet.Regardless, Green Bay will have to play better than they have so far in order to come away with a Division title, but at least they haven’t played themselves out of one yet.Matub: Seeing a burner with the number 83Anyone who has spent a modicum of time on this site knows my love for one Jeffery Ronald Janis. My tombstone will say “Big, Tall, and Fast will always translate to special teams”. So when the Packers drafted Marquez Valdes-Scantling and gave him the number 83 http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-kyle-murphy-jersey , I was elated. I never expected MVS to come out as a guns-blazing rookie and do much with his first year. I wanted him to be a punt gunner and maybe a kick returner. However, seeing him already showing more promise in the regular season than we saw out of the last 83 has been great. MVS could really become the vertical threat that’s been missing. Top flight corners are already learning to respect his speed.Peter Bukowski: Cornerstone pieces stepping forward We knew Davante Adams was good, but he’d never had to actually carry a passing offense. It turns out,not only can he put the team on his back, he could be shouldering even more of a burden than he does. We knew David Bakhtiari was good. It turns out he’s the best pass-blocking left tackle in football. We knew Kenny Clark was good. It turns out (and if PFF is to be believed) he’s quietly become one of the most disruptive and impactful defensive linemen in the league. Aaron Rodgers needs more than just his right arm and two legs. For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about this team’s lack of talent, the blue chip players are stepping up this season around Rodgers. By the end of the season we could be adding Jaire Alexander into that mix. Josh Jackson isn’t far behind, and if Kevin King can stay on the field, he has serious upside. Geronimo Allison isn’t just the “next man up,” he’s a legitimately dangerous passing target. And the Packers appeared to have something with their rookie receivers as has been noted above.Despite the inconsistencies and execution problems, it’s clear there’s building blocks both for the present and the future. And unfortunately for the Packers (and Rodgers in particular) the cupboard had been too bare the last few years. That change should give Green Bay fans hope. Paul Noonan: New StarsTo remain competitive you need to churn out a new star every now and then, and I think that both Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson have star potential. Along with the still-very-young Kenny Clark, the defense actually has some nice looking cornerstones to build around. Alexander in particular strikes me as a difference maker already, and as he gains more experience he should be able to handle the Revis role. Pettine needs guys like this to function, and the front office did a nice scouting job. The defense has been better than their numbers indicate, and I suspect in the second half of the season Corey Linsley Jersey White , if health permits it, they will round into a top-10 unit. Once they finally get around to replacing the outside linebackers, they should be officially dangerous. Now if the offense can just catch up...Packers vs. Bears, Week 1 2018: Second half game updates & discussion That was the most disastrous 30 minutes of football that the Green Bay Packers could have imagined. Not only did the Chicago Bears’ offense look creative and solid early on, but Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers’ offense was stagnant and insistent upon running on first and second downs, picking up just a single first down in the first quarter. Then on the fourth offensive series of the game, disaster truly struck. On third and nine, Aaron Rodgers dropped back to pass and was sacked by Roy Robertson-Harris, who landed on Rodgers’ extended left leg. Rodgers eventually left the field on a cart and did not return by halftime — nor was there any update by the half. The Packers now trail 17-0 after a Khalil Mack pick-six extended Chicago’s lead by another seven points. HOUSTON (AP) — Texans receiver Will Fuller has a torn knee ligament and will miss the rest of the season Tytus Howard Jersey 2019 , a big blow to a team that has won five in a row and is coming off a high-scoring victory. He was injured during the fourth quarter Thursday night against Miami when he became entangled with a defender and tumbled to the ground.Coach Bill O’Brien said Friday he doesn’t know when Fuller will have surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.“I’m very disappointed for Will because Will’s a great guy,” O’Brien said. “He’s really been playing at a high level.”Fuller had a season-high 124 yards receiving with a 73-yard touchdown on Thursday before the injury. He had 503 yards receiving and four touchdowns in seven games this season. The third-year player was a first-round pick in 2016.The Texans ran up a season-high 42 points against the Dolphins and have recovered from their 0-3 start to the season. At 5-3, they are leading the AFC South.“If you go through every team, everybody’s dealing with injuries,” O’Brien said. “It’s such a cliche Color Rush Tytus Howard Jersey , but the coaching staff, the players, we all have to pitch in and figure it out and figure out how we’re going to construct the offense. And maybe some things will be the same and maybe some things will be a little bit different.”The loss of Fuller is the latest setback for a team which played without receiver Keke Coutee on Thursday night. The rookie, a fourth-round pick, injured his hamstring last Sunday against Jacksonville after missing the first three games of the season with a different hamstring injury.Since Houston doesn’t play again until a trip to Denver on Nov. 4 Cheap Tytus Howard Jersey , there is a possibility that Coutee will be healthy by then.“We’ll see where he’s at … he’s a guy who had been playing well for us, and hopefully he can come back at some point,” O’Brien said.Coutee has 21 receptions for 196 yards and a touchdown this season.“Keke’s a very versatile guy,” O’Brien said. “You’ve seen us put him in the backfield. He’s played on the outside and obviously he plays on the inside. So he’s got versatility. A little bit different than Will, no doubt about it. Every guy’s different. But he does a lot of (good) things.”With Fuller out Tytus Howard Jersey Womens , the Texans could look for increased production from Sammie Coates and Vyncint Smith or get their running backs and tight ends more involved in the passing game.O’Brien also didn’t rule out the possibility of the Texans signing a player to help fill in.“I know there’s guys in the locker room that can do certain things,” O’Brien said. “Obviously if they could do them like Will, they would have been out there like Will. But there’s definitely guys who can do some things. We’ve got a lot of good players in that locker room.” Despite having recently signed a contract to play football for the Texans, Matt Kalil admits he’s currently unable to actually do that."One of the only “name” players the Houston Texans signed in free agency this year was former Carolina Panthers tackle Matt Kalil. As we’ve all read, he didn’t come cheap and nothing about signing him gives anyone the warm fuzzies that he’s going to be the savior of Houston’s offensive line woes. Now the fine folks over at NBC are reporting Kalil isn’t even capable of taking the field at this point - something you’d think a team physical would have made apparent. NBC’s Josh Alper:The best part of the article comes in later on:All the more reason that Jonah Williams gets my vote for Houston’s #1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. That is Senio Kelemete Jersey , if the Panthers don’t nab him first. One thing you read over and over again when checking into Williams is just how smart this cat is, and that’s the sort of thing you want in a tackle when it comes to protecting the franchise (a/k/a Deshaun Watson). Is Kalil the answer? Or is he a reply to a question we don’t want to ask?

Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green caught an 11-yard pass from Andy Dalton to move the team into field goal range at the end of last Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers Bobby Hart Jersey , so the team didn’t have to push for more yards before Randy Bullock put the game-winner through the uprights. If there had been more football to play, it’s unclear whether Green would have been able to take part as he hurt his toe while making the catch. Green said he was OK after the game, but multiple reporters shared that he was in a protective boot at the team’s facility Tuesday. With a bye week in Week Nine Deshaun Davis Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , the Bengals may just be taking every precaution in order to ensure Green is ready to go when they return to action against the Saints on November 11. Green Bay signed a player at each of their key weaknesses in free agency. The prices may have been high http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-jason-spriggs-jersey , but they offer the team flexibility in the draft."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football Adviceflexibility in the draft. CDTShareTweetShareShareWill the Packers’ free agent prizes alter how they approach the 2019 NFL Draft? Preston Smith and new running mate Za’Darius Smith provide the Packers cover to look elsewhere to improve their team in the dream. Brad Mills-USA TODAY SportsFree agency never altered the Green Bay Packers’ draft plans under Ted Thompson because free agency rarely altered the Packers roster at all. Why change the approach when the circumstances haven’t, in fact, changed? Brian Gutekunst clearly skipped that lesson in Thompsonism 101, spending big each of his first two offseasons to plug gaps in Green Bay’s roster. The notion the Packers didn’t draft for need under Thompson represents an ahistorical account of the team’s past. He allocated massive resources to fixing the defense, an accomplishment he couldn’t quite crack once Charles Woodson aged out of dominance and Nick Collins’ career was cut tragically short. This was necessary, at least in part, because Thompson stubbornly refused to use the tools at his disposal in free agency. If some of these big money contracts don’t work out for Green Bay, and history says that’s likely to be happen, Thompson will be at 1265 Lombardi saying, “I told you so.” But now that the ink is dry on the contracts, what’s done is done. And we won’t know the quality of these signings until the players actually take the field and make, or don’t make, an impact. What matters now is the shape of this team, no longer facing gaping holes on the depth chart. This opens up opportunities in the draft for creativity. Trade up, trade down Womens Jimmy Graham Jersey , take a gamble on upside or a non-premium position. It’s not as if every spot on the roster holds an above average player. There’s still no tight end likely to be on the roster past 2019. Bryan Bulaga may need a replacement as soon as 2020 and if Billy Turner is the right guard of the future — even if it’s just the near future — he can’t also be the right tackle of that near future. Mike Daniels and Blake Martinez only have 2019 left on their contracts, with their futures playing into this equation. They provide a particularly apt example of why worrying about Year 1 impact of a rookie is a fool’s errand. If a player has a good chance to be a starter in Year 2-4, that’s extremely valuable. Even with Adrian Amos in the fold, Tramon Williams doesn’t provide answers beyond 2019, and we have no idea if Josh Jones does either. A team can never have too many playmakers at receiver, pass rushers, competent blockers, or cover players. The draft is Gutekunst’s oyster. When on the draft clock and faced with a decision, a team must ask itself what player will improve this team the most over his rookie contract. Who will earn that big money second deal because they make the squad so much better? Before Za’Darius and Preston Smith, it was hard to believe there would be a player for whom that would be more true than a talented edge rusher. That’s not to say reach for one, but there were likely to be a cluster of closely talented players in whom the Packers would have interest. That value, the relative impact on the team, becomes the trump card.Giving that player 30% of snaps for the first two or three years of his career necessarily alters that evaluation. The Smiths will get every opportunity to succeed, for at least two years and probably three on the low end, with each demonstrating impressive durability in their young careers. That doesn’t mean don’t draft Montez Sweat or Brian Burns if they’re available. After all Bryan Bulaga Jersey White , Kyler Fackrell is still the only other replacement level or better player on the roster at the position behind Mr. and Mr. Smith. But weigh the impact of that player against the alternatives. Suddenly, it makes more sense than it did a week ago to believe that a future right tackle will maximally improve this team and given the circumstances, that the Packers could look outside their traditional athletic tendencies to get him. They met with Florida’s Jawaan Taylor at the combine and he’s widely considered the top right tackle prospect in the draft. Dalton Risner belongs in that conversation as well, and Chris Lindstrom later in the first or early in the second represents the ideal athletic profile for the kind of player the Packers love. Though it always seemed likely to happen, drafting a tight end provides a more plausible path to improvement than it would have on Monday. Whether it’s Noah Fant or T.J. Hockenson in the first round or Irv Smith Jr. at 44, that kind of versatility matters more now with other positions locked down, or at least solidified. The efficacy of those plans will be tested in the future, but the Packers have to make these decisions based on the information at hand. They have a plan at those need spots at the very least. Does this put the Packers in a more likely position to look at an athletic linebacker or speedy receiver sooner than they otherwise might have? Spending in free agency mitigates the risk. The opportunity cost of not drafting a player at a need position reduces when the need likewise falls. Taking a gamble on Parris Campbell in the first round, or splashing the pot with Devin Bush at 12 aren’t the risks they would be otherwise. The very idea of a “reach” is about managing risk. The more risk a player has, the lower he tends to be drafted. That’s the point of the draft. With a host of draft picks and myriad paths to improvement, Green Bay has the latitude to take those risks. Take 12 and 30 to go up and grab Ed Oliver in the top-5, or pair 30 and 44 to move up for DK Metcalf, a player who, for whatever you believe about his flaws, would crush in Matt LaFleur’s vertical offense. Or trade out of 12 to 15 http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-kentrell-brice-jersey , add picks, and just throws darts at the board. It’s no longer mission-critical to prioritize the marginal talent gain of the players available at 12 vs. those at 15. Take the extra picks and hope to add talented depth all around the roster. Perhaps most importantly, the signings from this week represent financial gambles of their own. One of the top assets in the game is a good player on a rookie deal. If Gutekunst gets solid production out of this free agent class while also hitting on a couple guys in the draft, the Packers can run the congruent course of paying for production while also squeezing out value from guys on rookie deals, buoying the value of each. Hitting on draft picks also protects the Packers if they free agent signings go awry, another reason not to ignore safety, outside linebacker, or offensive line in the draft. Gutekunst put himself in a position to improve this roster even if he doesn’t come away with impressive draft classes every season, a tact his predecessor refused. Much like a draft class, we won’t know for sure if Gutey is any better for a few years, right around the time the big bills in these contracts come due and we find out if these young players can help this team win. He took a major financial bite at the apple, and if we view that investment as partially paying for flexibility in the draft, this free agent class doesn’t have to perform quite so well if it means the ability to add quality players at other positions and fortify this team as a whole. T.J. Hockenson saw his stock rise considerably after the NFL Scouting Combine, regularly coming off the board in the top 10 of most mock drafts. However, he slips to the Packers at pick No. 12 in SB Nation’s latest projection."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTShareTweetShareShare2019 NFL mock draft: T.J. Hockenson slips to Packers at pick No. 12Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY SportsWith just over a week remaining before the 2019 NFL Draft begins Justin McCray Jersey , some of the ideas discarded early in the process have begun to resurface. Some well-connected NFL media members have publicly questioned whether the Arizona Cardinals will indeed draft Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall selection. Ed Oliver once again seems destined for a top 10 selection. And, as evident in SB Nation Dan Kadar’s latest mock draft, T.J. Hockenson could end up with the Packers at pick No. 12.Tight ends rarely come off the board early in the first round, even coveted, versatile ones like Iowa’s Hockenson. Still, new Packers head coach Matt LaFleur could use a traditional “Y” tight end to great effect in his offensive scheme, especially as an edge blocker on outside-zone runs and tight-end throwbacks. Hockenson’s youth (he just completed his redshirt sophomore season) and the schematic fit make him a viable option for Green Bay this early. The Packers don’t need a center, Garrett Bradbury’s primary position. However, his top-flight athleticism for an offensive lineman and his positional versatility make him a tantalizing choice for Green Bay at this spot. Bradbury could provide real competition at either guard spot immediately while allowing recently signed Billy Turner to spend his time, whether in 2019 or in the future, at right tackle. No matter how Green Bay reshuffled the offensive line, the unit would improve with Bradbury in it.

The Oddsmakers and experts are surprisingly confident in the Bengals this week. Usually after such a big loss teams aren’t so heavily favored Deshaun Davis Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , but then again most teams don’t face a team like the Buccaneers following a loss like that. Here are the odds and experts’ picks for this week.OddsThe Bengals are currently four-point favorites against the Buccaneers, according to Bovada. The Bengals opened as six-point favorites against Tampa Bay, but it seems like too many people have taken Cincinnati to bounce back before their bye week. Vontaze Burfict also hasn’t practiced as of Thursday Deshaun Davis Jersey 2019 , which could be a huge blow for the Bengals’ defense. The total for the game currently sits at 54.5, but considering the rut the Bengals offense has been in it seems like an uphill battle for these two teams to reach that total. 5 things we learned in the Detroit Lions’ preseason victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers The Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers played their annual preseason Week 3 dress rehearsal game Friday night. It was a wet and sloppy affair that saw the Buccaneers dominate for a majority of the night before two late Detroit touchdowns swung the game in the closing minutes. Here are a few things we learned from the match up. The linebackers must improveGeneral manager Bob Quinn has made it a point to invest in the Lions linebacking corps the past few years and for good reason. The defense’s second line has been the team’s biggest weakness in recent history. Jarrad Davis http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-dwayne-washington-jersey , Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Devon Kennard and Christian Jones were all added to the lineup over the past two seasons to fix their concerns, but if this preseason has been any indication, the problems still exist. Davis struggled yet again, missing a few key tackles even after getting himself in perfect position to make a play. Reeves-Maybin, who has previously been lauded for his ability in coverage, was torched by running back Ronald Jones for a huge gain in the first half. Jones and Kennard were not particularly bad but they did not do much good on the defensive side of the ball either. If this was truly the game that will give us the best look at how Detroit will play in 2018 then it is clear that the linebacking corps is still a problem. Hakeem Valles is a potential contributorHakeem Valles was a player that was entering this preseason on the roster bubble. New free agency additions Luke Willson and Levine Toilolo were brought in to be immediate contributors and second-year player Michael Roberts was set to step into an expanded role. Through three weeks of preseason Valles has been the only one in the bunch that has stood out. Wilson has only played a limited amount as he is set to start anyways Womens Tracy Walker Jersey , but Toilolo and Roberts have both been mediocre at best. Valles impressed again on Friday night with three receptions for 38 yards and was one of the lone bright spots on offense in the first half. It is hard to imagine the Lions not keeping him around after the 53-man roster cut, and there is a very real chance he climbs up the depth chart and sees regular playing time this season. The starting spot across Darius Slay is still wide openWhile the Lions All-Pro corner Darius Slay has had his starting role locked up since the beginning of training camp, the starting role at CB2 across from him may still be wide open. Nevin Lawson was the listed starter again on Friday night, but the Buccaneers spent the entire first half picking on him. Lawson was liable for a couple of penalties and let Tampa Bay’s receivers beat him all over the field. The door was wide open for second year player Teez Tabor to step up and impress but he had a relatively quiet night. Newly signed Sterling Moore did not see playing time until very late in the game and DeShawn Shead was absent yet again. The Lions have two weeks to figure out who they need to start at CB2, and right now it looks like none of the options are the right answer. The run defense is bad, but Ricky Jean Francois is goodDetroit’s inability to stop the run has been one of the major story lines of this preseason. In back-to-back weeks the Oakland Raiders and New York Giants have been able to run all over the Lions and that didn’t change on Friday night. Peyton Barber carried the Buccaneers offense down the field on the team’s opening possession before finally gashing the Lions for a 14-yard touchdown run to open the scoring. While the front seven as a whole looked poor defending the run, there was one reprise. Newly signed Ricky Jean Francois looked great on the interior of the defensive line. The defensive tackle has been previously heralded for his gap-stuffing ability and he showed why on Friday. He stuffed a few runs inside and made things harder for opposing running backs by eating up space in the middle. Francois finished the game with six total tackles Womens Da'Shawn Hand Jersey , second to only Lawson. This team does not look good, at allWhile it was nice to see the Lions finally put one in the win column, Friday night’s game was a disaster. The first and second string offensive line was bullied by the Bucs defensive front, the defensive line was a mess outside of Francois, the linebackers made many crucial errors and the secondary was picked apart by Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston. Players that are expected to be major contributors this season failed the team all over the roster. This was supposed to be the week that told us the most about how the Lions will play in the upcoming season, and it was probably their worst preseason performance yet. There might be Hall of Fame wide receivers in other cities trying to recruit Antonio Brown, but Lions wideout Kenny Golladay is not going to be one of them.During an interview on WXYT Graham Glasgow Jersey White , Golladay said he thought the Lions were more than capable at the position without the former All-Pro.“To be honest, I feel like the Lions are good where we’re at,” he said, via Dave Birkett of the .The Lions passing game cratered last season, leading to the dismissal of offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. But that was after they traded Golden Tate to Philadelphia, and Marvin Jones was lost to a knee injury.Lions General Manager Bob Quinn said he wanted to add “more playmakers,” but Golladay apparently doesn’t think he means a player such as Brown.“No offense to Antonio Brown http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-tracy-walker-jersey , he鈥檚 gonna go down as one of the greats, an amazing player,” Golladay said. “But with me, T.J. Jones, Brandon Powell, Chris Lacy, Bruce Ellington 鈥?I mean Miles Killebrew Jersey White , the list just goes on. All those guys have made plays this year. I have trust in those guys and I know the organization does as well.”Golladay is right, that list does go on.Unfortunately, Ellington and T.J. Jones are free agents, and Powell has 11 career receptions and Lacy none.
